A solution to a problem, I was having a problem when connecting to our sharepoint server (MOSS 2007) over the interweb. The problem was that the start a page and new site do not show the default.aspx page which is a pain. after a few hour searching i found the solution , which i had also fixed without knowing.
Solution is setting up the alternative access mappings
Central Administration > Operations > Alternative Access Mappings
Make sure the internet zone is set to the public pages.
from inside the network (default) http://server outside the network i.e. from the t’internet
https://secure.server.com (internet zone)
